Find & Replace

More than a plain find/replace: matches are highlighted in place as you type, with match-type and case options, a counter with next/previous navigation, and an explicit Apply step before anything is committed.

How to Use Find & Replace — Beyond a Plain Text Swap

This tool works like a code editor's find/replace panel, not a one-shot text swap: type a search term and every match is highlighted right where it appears, before you decide whether to replace anything at all.

  1. 01

    Find — Matches Highlight Automatically

Type into "Find" and every match highlights in the output immediately, with a live "X / Y" counter and ‹ › buttons to jump between matches — nothing is changed yet.

  2. 02

    Choose How to Match

"Match" switches between Contains (substring, e.g. "cat" also matches inside "catalog") and Whole word (exact, "cat" only matches the standalone word). "Case-sensitive" controls whether "Cat" and "cat" are treated as the same match.

  3. 03

Turn On Replace to Preview a Swap

Check "Replace" to reveal the "Replace with" field. The output now shows your text with each match swapped in place and still highlighted — so you can see exactly what changed, not just the final result. Uncheck it any time to go back to Find-only (original text, matches highlighted, nothing replaced).

  4. 04

Apply, Then Find the Next Thing

Click "Apply" to commit the current replacement as the new text — no copy/pasting the output back into the input. The search term clears so you can immediately look for the next thing to change, while your Match/Case/Replace preferences stay put.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about this tool.

Is this just a basic find and replace?

No — matches highlight live as you type (before anything is replaced), you can preview a replacement in place before committing to it, and you can navigate between matches with a counter and next/previous buttons, similar to a code editor's find panel.

What is the difference between "Contains" and "Whole word"?

"Contains" matches your search term anywhere, including inside a longer word (e.g. "cat" matches inside "catalog"). "Whole word" only matches it as a standalone word, so "catalog" would not match a search for "cat".

What happens to my previous replacement if I clear "Find" to search for something else?

If you haven't clicked "Apply" yet, clearing "Find" reverts the preview back to your original text — the replacement was never committed. Click "Apply" first to keep it as the new text, then search for the next thing.

Does this support regular expressions?

No — matching is always a literal string (with optional Whole-word and case-sensitivity), so a search term can never be misread as a regex pattern or hang on a malicious/accidental one.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Finding, highlighting, and replacing all run entirely inside your browser. Nothing you type or paste is ever sent to a server.
