How to Edit a Photo Online for Free

Open a photo and you have a full editor right in your browser. Brighten a dark picture, sharpen a blurry face, wipe out a stranger in the background, swap the background, add a greeting in Hindi or Tamil, then save it for WhatsApp, Instagram or print. It is free, there is no sign-up and no watermark, and your photo stays on your phone or computer while you edit.

  1. 01

Open a Photo or Pick What You Want to Do

Drop in a photo, choose one from your device or paste it with Ctrl+V. The start screen also lets you jump straight to resizing, compressing or converting, start from a template or a collage, or begin with a blank canvas.

  2. 02

Edit With the Tools Beside the Photo

Pick a tool from the side panel: Adjust, Enhance, Magic Erase, Retouch, Filters, Effects, Crop, Background, Templates, Collage, Text, Frames, Stickers, Draw and Add Photo. Every change can be undone, and Compare shows you the original.

  3. 03

    Download Your Photo

Save it as a JPG, a PNG that keeps see-through parts, or a WebP. You can set the quality, a file size in KB, the print DPI and the exact width and height before you download.

Everything you can do in the editor

Start the way you like

The first screen asks what you want to do, so you are not dropped into a wall of buttons.

  • Edit a photo here; resizing, compressing and converting have their own Image Tools page
  • When you finish, send the edited photo to Compress, Resize or Convert in one tap
  • Begin from a ready-made template or a collage
  • Start with a blank canvas in a square, portrait, story or wide size
  • Working on many photos? The Bulk Image Compressor does them all at once and gives you one ZIP
  • Drag and drop, choose a file, or paste a copied picture
  • Start over at any time to go back to this screen

Fix the light and colour

The Adjust tool has 15 sliders, grouped the way photographers think about a picture.

  • Light: exposure, brightness, contrast, highlights, shadows and fade
  • Colour: saturation, vibrance, warmth, tint and hue
  • Detail: sharpen, blur, vignette and film grain
  • Hold Compare to see the original photo at any time
  • Revert All takes the photo back to how it was when you opened it

Make a blurry or small photo clear

Enhance has three modes, each with a strength slider so you decide how much is too much.

  • AI HD Upscale makes a small photo up to four times bigger and sharper
  • Portrait Face Unblur brings back detail in soft faces without the white outlines that heavy sharpening leaves
  • De-Noise cleans up grainy night shots and blocky JPG marks while keeping skin and hair looking real
  • The work runs in the background, so the page keeps responding even on a big photo

Remove people, objects and red eye

  • Magic Erase: paint over a stranger, a wire, a sign or a date stamp and it is filled in from what is around it
  • Choose the AI fill for busy areas, or the quick fill for plain walls and sky
  • Clone copies one part of the photo over another, with brush size, softness and opacity
  • Red eye: tap the middle of each eye and only the red part changes; the eye colour and the sparkle stay

Remove, blur or replace the background

  • Remove the background in one tap: works on people, pets, products and cars
  • Missed a bit? Tap it to bring it back, or tap leftover background to clear it
  • Erase a plain background colour, handy for signatures and logos on white paper
  • Blur the background behind the person for a portrait-mode look
  • Pick from 77 backdrops: festive, bokeh, studio, textures, patterns, podiums, nature, gradients and solid colours
  • Make your own background for free in eight styles (soft blend, aurora, waves, low poly, blobs, bokeh, light rays, festive), each in light, vivid or dark; press again for a new one
  • Add a soft shadow and a glossy floor reflection under a product

Crop, resize, rotate and straighten

  • Crop freely or to a fixed shape, then rotate and flip
  • Ready sizes for Instagram post and story, WhatsApp DP, YouTube thumbnail, Facebook cover, LinkedIn banner, X post and HD wallpaper
  • Passport photo, signature and SSC exam photo and signature sizes for online forms
  • Fix perspective straightens a page, a screen or a building shot at an angle
  • Set the size in pixels, centimetres, millimetres or inches, with the DPI you need for printing

Filters, effects and your own LUTs

  • 39 filters in 7 collections (popular, warm, cool, moody, vintage, black and white, bright and pastel), each previewed on your own photo, with a strength slider
  • 14 effects such as pixel art, duotone, glitch, halftone, pencil sketch, vintage amber, retro 35mm and neon
  • Bring your own colour look as a .cube LUT file from DaVinci Resolve, Photoshop or a LUT pack; it stays on your device

Text in English and Indian languages

  • 66 fonts, including Hindi, Marathi and other Devanagari scripts, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu
  • 25 ready looks such as gold, neon, fire, 3D pop, wedding, comic, typewriter and handwritten
  • Wishes adds a styled greeting such as Happy Birthday or Happy Diwali in one tap
  • Tap any text on the photo to change its words, font, colour or size

Templates, invitations and collages

  • 83 templates for festivals, wishes, invitations, business, social posts and quotes, in English and Hindi
  • Every template is shown with your own photo before you pick it
  • All words, decorations and the photo shape stay editable afterwards
  • Sizes for square and portrait posts, story or WhatsApp status, thumbnails and cards
  • Collage puts your photos into one of 15 layouts, with spacing and rounded corners you can change

Stickers, shapes, frames and drawing

  • Emoji stickers and decorations such as bunting, balloons, diyas, rangoli, marigold toran and string lights
  • Shapes including heart, star, arch, hexagon and arrow, plus phone and laptop mockups
  • Any shape can be filled or just an outline, with your own border colour and width
  • 12 frames and borders with adjustable colour, width and rounded corners
  • Draw freehand with your own brush colour and size

Layers, like a desktop editor

  • Add more photos, logos or graphics on top of your picture
  • Change each layer’s opacity and blend mode (12 modes)
  • Drag layers to reorder them, or hide and lock them
  • On a laptop or bigger screen the layers list stays open beside the photo; on a phone it opens when you need it

Works well on a phone

  • Pinch to zoom and drag with one finger
  • Handles are big enough for a fingertip
  • Reorder layers by touch
  • Full-screen mode gives the photo more room while keeping the tools in reach

Save it the way you need

  • JPG, PNG with see-through parts, or WebP, with a quality slider
  • AVIF, GIF, BMP and SVG too, when your browser can make them, plus ICO for website icons
  • Set a minimum and maximum file size in KB for upload forms
  • Choose 72, 150 or 300 DPI for screen or print

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about this tool.

Is the photo editor really free, without a watermark?

Yes. Every tool and every download is free. There is no watermark, no account and no limit on how many photos you edit.

Are my photos uploaded?

Normally, no — your image is processed inside your browser on desktops, laptops, phones, and tablets. It is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our server only when you export a .ico favicon, use an exam / target file-size preset, edit a phone photo larger than 12 megapixels, or if your browser cannot process the image itself; it is then processed in memory and returned immediately, and never stored, logged, or shared. The AI tools (background removal, Magic Erase and HD Upscale) also run on your device; only their AI files are downloaded, once.

How do I make a blurry photo clear?

Open the photo, go to Enhance and choose Portrait Face Unblur for a soft face, or AI HD Upscale for a small or low-quality picture. Move the strength slider until it looks natural, and hold Compare to check against the original.

How do I remove a person or object from a photo?

Go to Magic Erase and paint over what you want gone. When you lift your finger it is filled in from the area around it. If a spot does not look right, press Undo and try a smaller stroke, or switch between the AI fill and the quick fill.

How do I remove the background and keep it transparent?

Open Background and remove it with one tap. Tap any part the AI missed to fix it. To keep it see-through, download as PNG or WebP; JPG cannot be transparent, so empty areas would turn white.

Can I blur the background like portrait mode?

Yes. In Background, choose Blur the background. The person or object stays sharp and only what is behind them is blurred.

Can I make a new background for free?

Yes. The background maker draws a fresh background on your device in eight styles and three tones, as many times as you like. Nothing is sent anywhere and there is no cost or limit.

Can I write in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil or other Indian languages?

Yes. The Text tool has fonts for Hindi and other Devanagari scripts, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. Just type in your language and pick a font and a look.

Can I make festival wishes or an invitation card?

Yes. Open Templates, pick one from Festivals, Wishes or Invitations, and your photo goes in straight away. Tap any line to change the names, date or message, then download it to share on WhatsApp or Instagram.

Can I make a photo collage?

Yes. Choose Collage from the start screen or the side panel, pick one of 15 layouts and add your photos. You can change the spacing, rounded corners and size afterwards.

Can I use my own LUT or colour preset?

Yes, if it is a .cube LUT file. Add it under Filters, then set how strong it should be. The file stays on your device.

Can I make a passport photo or reduce a photo to a size in KB?

Yes. Crop has passport, signature and SSC exam sizes, and the download settings let you set a minimum and maximum size in KB for upload forms. For a print-ready passport sheet, use our Passport Photo Maker.

Why does an AI tool take a while the first time?

The first time you use background removal, Magic Erase or HD Upscale, its AI file is downloaded to your browser. After that it is kept there, so the next time it starts straight away.

What is the largest photo I can make?

Results can be up to 8,192 pixels on a side and about 33 megapixels, which is the most browsers can handle safely. If an upscale would go past that, the editor tells you how far this photo can be enlarged.

Can I undo changes or start again?

Yes. Undo and Redo work for every change, and Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y (or Ctrl+Shift+Z) work on a keyboard. Revert All takes the photo back to how it was, and Start over clears everything and returns to the start screen.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Every tool works by touch: pinch to zoom, drag with one finger, and the handles are sized for a fingertip. Full-screen mode gives the photo more room when you need it.

Can I edit many photos at once?

For compressing, resizing or converting a batch, use the Bulk Image Compressor. It applies one set of settings to every photo and gives you a single ZIP.
